What Are Garage Door Roller Shutters?

Unique Designs for you. Expert Installation. Ongoing Support.

Roller Shutter Garage Doors are exactly what they sound like - roller shutters that have been used as a garage door. They are usually made from aluminium profiles and can be powder coated or have laminate finishes applied to them to give them a wooden appearance.

Roller Shutters make excellent options for garage doors. Their roll-up mechanism saves a lot of ceiling space and offers a simpler, higher security option than the traditional up and over garage doors which are more likely to break or come loose from their cables.

There are options for remote control fobs, safety edge sensors, and photo cell beams. It is also possible to upgrade garage door roller shutters to an SR1 or SR2 security rating, so you can make sure your garage (and it’s contents) are as safe as they possibly can be.

Contact our sales team now on 0800 112 0083 or email to discuss your requirements.

Roller Shutter Garage Doors can be powder coated in RAL and BS colours, or be laminated with wood effects.

What Are Garage Door Roller Shutters used For?

As the name says on the tin, Roller Shutter Garage Doors are found exclusively on homes where there are single or double garages. They are also useful for any other kind of outbuilding, and if you think there’s something you would like to use a shutter on at home, there’s a good chance we can help.

Common places to find shutters at home include:

  • Garages
  • Patio Doors
  • Windows
  • Outbuildings
  • Stables
  • Sheds

If you have a requirement that you don't see listed above, that doesn't mean we can't help. Get in touch with our friendly sales team to discuss your requirements.

How Do Roller Shutter Garage Doors Work?

All roller shutters are controlled either manually with a spring loaded barrel or hand-chain, or motor-operated with a single phase or 3 phase electric motor.

Depending on your requirements, some options may be better than others for your application.

For example, if you are using the shutter multiple times per day then a manual operation or 3-phase motor will be recommended to make sure the motor isn’t over worked.

If the shutter is the size of a typical single garage opening, and you expect to use it once or twice per day (when opening or closing a business) then a single phase motor will be adequate.
